In the middle of Atteridgeville, where kotas and dipapa have long been the kings of street food, one bold food spot is expanding the township menu. At 55 Moroe Street, you’ll find Epicure Bitez, a place that’s proving gourmet food isn’t just for fancy restaurants in the big cities. It can be made right here, mo kasi, with love, flavour, and flair.
A Taste Like No Other
Epicure Bitez is for people with an exquisite palate, a love for gourmet food, and an appetite for flavour. The menu is packed with mouthwatering creations, think gourmet burgers, wings and tacos that rival anything you’d find in the city.

Some favourites include:
Epic X Burger – two handcrafted beef patties stacked with bacon, egg, cheese, mushrooms, and pure indulgence.
Smash & Cheese Burger – double patties, double cheese, and a signature blue cheese sauce, served with crispy fries and wings on the side.
Taco Friday Special – crunchy tacos filled with fresh salsa and beef, paired with wings and chips, bringing a gourmet twist to eating out on Fridays.
Every dish is made with fresh ingredients, cooked from scratch, and served with generosity. When you order a burger at Epicure Bitez, you’re not just biting into food, you’re tasting craftsmanship.
Meet the Founder: Thabiso Mhlongo
Epicure Bitez is the brainchild of Thabiso Mhlongo, born and raised in Atteridgeville. His journey to food wasn’t straightforward. He studied civil engineering at Tshwane South College, worked in a call centre, and even did an internship at Kauai.
“It wasn’t what I expected,” he recalls. “But working in that kitchen gave me inspiration. I realized I love food, and I wanted to bring something different to my community.”
The name Epicure came from a chance moment watching Chopped on Food Network. “I heard the word Epicure, looked it up, and it meant someone who enjoys fine food. That was me ,and that’s the type of food I wanted to create for my people.”
By 2020, he had left his job, designed a menu, and opened Epicure Bitez. Few years later, the business is thriving and the community is backing him all the way.
Changing the Kasi Food Story
Running a food business in Pretoria is no small feat. But Thabiso has always had a bigger vision than just selling meals. For him, it’s about changing perceptions of what township food can be.
“In Atteridgeville, people are used to kota, mogodu, pap and vleis. I wanted to bring something unique, something people normally only find in Sandton or Menlyn. Why shouldn’t we have that right here?” he says.
The response has been overwhelming. From the youth to elders, the community has welcomed Epicure Bitez with open arms. Beyond the food, locals see the bigger picture: a business born in Atteridgeville that is uplifting the township economy and inspiring young people to think differently about entrepreneurship.
“We’re showing that something world-class can come out of Atteridgeville,” Thabiso explains. “If Burger King can open in the township, why not me?”
The Vision for the Future
Epicure Bitez has already achieved a lot in under five years, but Thabiso’s ambitions go much further. His next steps include:
Expanding into corporate catering, bringing that same gourmet touch to events and offices.
Opening more branches and franchising the brand to make Epicure Bitez a household name.
Continuing to blend township roots with gourmet flavours to create a new category of dining in South Africa.
“The vision is very clear, Epicure Bitez is going beyond kasi.”
He’s even studying for a B.Com in Marketing Management to sharpen his business skills. For him, it’s not just about cooking food, it’s about building a brand with impact.

Why Epicure Bitez Matters
Epicure Bitez isn’t just about food. It’s about representation. It’s about showing that township-born businesses can compete with global brands. It’s about creating jobs, inspiring young people, and shifting what people expect from kasi food.
Every burger, every taco, every wing is proof that good food doesn’t need to come from outside. It can be crafted right here, with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of flavour.
